Besides beautiful landscapes, Romania also has beautiful souls.
I visited the country to film for the Western Union’s award-winning #LiveMore #ShareMore series and met Constantine, a 79 years old merchant proud of being working at the same stall for over half a century! She sells fruits and vegetables and many of the people that she met either passed away or moved to other countries to pursue a better life.
I loved the way she dressed and the warm tone of her voice while talking about a niece that relocated to Ireland and would rarely visit her nowadays.
-No her fault – she tries to justify while organising carrots in a bowl – it is a far, far way place, isn’t it? She said I should go there one day to visit her, but I am afraid of airplanes.
Constantine could not understand, at first, why we wanted to photography someone that has been there for a long time and no one seemed to have ever noticed. In the end we managed to overcome the language barrier.
-It’s gonna rain, don’t get a cold! – Constantine warns the crew before we leave. I look at the sky and don’t see any cloud that can back up that information, so I assume it must be a sort of Romanian tradition to say that. Less than a hour later, we were all looking for umbrellas.
